Drop in and ride it out!

Griffin did it! He dropped in on the "devil bowl". The site below shows the bowl.
The videos are of the owner's sons.

I will have pictures next week.

Transition

Griffin, Dylan and their little friend Faith are really pushing it more than ever. Next week Griffin is going to try to drop in on the pool. The shallow side is approximately 7+  feet and the deep side is approximately 10+ feet.

Dylan tried the pool yesterday with 90% success. Next week the instructor will most likely take the pad away and let him rip.

Griffin is going for big air these days. To bad my picture taking ablilities StInK!

My Special Friend

This is my SPECIAL friend who thinks he is Magnum PI.
Ever since he tried to milk that horse which in turn kicked him in the head he insists on dressing, talking and even drives a Ferrari like the TV character. Well we tell him it's a Ferrari. It's really a Fiero.
We love him for who he is and I guess that is all that matters.

With all our love.

Keep it REAL Magnum and please say hi to Higgins, TC and the gang.

Made in Japan

What a trip.  Japan was great! I definitely think that a trip back is in order as there is so much to see and do.

Here is a group of people that I spent most of the week with.  I could not have asked for a nicer time. Thanks guys.

I apologize that the pictures are not that great but when I arrived in Japan I quickly realized that my camera was broken. So I had to take pictures with my dying cell phone.

Really Stepping Up

Griffin and Dylan are both doing very well with their skateboard lessons. Dylan is a class or two away from moving up to the next level. Sorry no pics today.

Three Foot Aerial - Invert - Backside or Just Learning

Dylan has now been officially introduced to the world of skateboarding.

I was impressed as the instructors had the kids practicing their drop ins. For those of you who do not understand the idea of a drop in here you go:

You go from 0 to 100 in one second flat and your confidence level soars.

The feeling you get when you finally nail your first drop in is unforgettable. I can still remember the first time I dropped in on a home made ramp in the back of a Chris C's house in seventh grade. From that point forward it was a blur of ramps, bowls, abandoned construction sites and canals all of which carry a story of laughs and injuries.

Just move there and get it over with!

We had another nice week in California two weeks ago. If all goes as planned Christi and the Kids along with our friend Alex and her two kids will be back in California for another go at Disney Land.

Below are some pictures from our last trip over the 4th of July. It was a blast. Take a look.

I must say that Jarod and Sara pulled out all the stops when we stayed at their wonderful home. They had outrageous fireworks and live dancers which was VERY entertaining.

I wish I knew how to use the camera.

What did he say? Did he say $#@% ?! No he said “Chub Bucket”

What do you get when you mix friends with a ramp and a rail? A GOOD Day!

Another Wonderful Day

This morning a few kids got together in front of our house to skate and hang out. It’s always great to hear their words of wisdom and witness their brains at work.

They had a blast!

Broken for a little while

Tonight Griffin decided to roll in on a 10 foot ramp. All was well until his board lifted from the ramp and he SLAMMED into the other side.

SLAMMED! SLAMMED! SLAMMED!

The doctor said that he should be okay in a few weeks once he gets a cast put on to help him from moving his wrist and lower arm. Fortunately it was only a "minimal buccal".

Griffin was surprisingly tough through the whole ordeal.

Oh what a feeling!

Griffin really tore it up this weekend. He is dropping in without any hesitation on the 4 foot ramps. Since Griffin and the others in his class were nailing the 4 foot ramp the instructor moved them over to the 6 foot side of the pool and had them try and try they did. I think next week will be the week.

If all goes as planned Dylan will be starting classes soon as well. He seems to be able to push and turn with ease however he needs to work on his confidence a little. The big kids still scare him some and who can blame him.

Anyway I think we found a good park to skate as the people are great and there appears to be less “knuckle heads” hanging around.

One last thought. I have two killer nephews that go by the names of David and his little Bro Call Option who may be coming soon for a visit. We are hoping to get David into a class with Dylan so they can both hang together and get some pointers. Maybe……… they will have them drop in on the 12 foot side of the pool just for starters.

Whatever

Here is a quick clip of Griffin at the skate park, trying to run me over. I had to do a little editing, because I said a bad word. ;)

Dylan was being quite the helper today digging for new sprinklers...

The Skateboard Lesson. By James Roeger (aka Stan Berenstain)

Well I put my own spin on the Stan and Jan Berenstain’s book, The Bike Lesson. So here is how it went down. It was a bright sunny Tuesday afternoon and I was getting frustrated with Griffin and his inability to stay on the skateboard while going off a 3 foot drop off. Soooooo Griffin said ok then you show me. So I did. I showed him what not to do. I started the approach towards the drop off when I got the feeling that something was not right. Yup my feeling was correct! The board went one way in the air and I went the other which resulted in a human concrete jackhammer. You just know when things are going to go wrong. Unfortunately I was moving to fast to stop without really causing harm. Anyway after my hearing came back and I could feel my legs I looked up and there was Griffin with his two thumbs up and stating: “way to go”, “Is that how I should do it?”

All Day

Griffin is finally getting the hang of dropping in. He tried a few times Saturday during free skate but his efforts were cut short when he received a (very minor) cut on his fingers. Griffin also got his first skateboard backpack which will hold all of his gear in one place which is more of a gift for me and my sanity. Now his gear should be in one place and there should be no more frantic search for knee and elbow pads anymore. Yea right!

Dylan on the other hand decided to stay in with Christi and play cars where he was warm and conveniently closer to the snack cabinet.

JUST KICK'N IT

Griffin recently started skateboard lessons and is totally digging it. There is at least 6000 square feet of indoor skate area consisting of a huge pool, rails, stairs quarter pipes and the list goes on. He rides with a smile on his face and is always in the mix waiting for the instructor’s next tip or lesson. I must admit Griffin has done plenty of sports and I have never seen a group of six to eight kids behave and listen so well.

Dylan is not far behind as he tries to skateboard like his big brother. Although he is to young for the classes he still tries his hardest and that’s all the we can ask.
Christi has surprised us as well when she dropped in on the fifteen foot pro ramp. Who knew!
